San Mateo County wants to give workers 60 days notice and four weeks…

LinkedIn post

San Mateo County wants to give workers 60 days notice and four weeks of severance if AI takes their job. They also want robots to carry off switches. The county has a habit of jumping into the news with this kind of thing. Their regulation shows they picture the threat as runaway robots that someone needs to flip off. That picture is wrong. A real problem with AI won't be solved by an off switch. The people writing these rules don't understand the technology they're trying to control. Rules made at the county level won't touch the actual risks. This needs to be handled at the national level, and probably the international level. Stay out of it if you don't know what you're doing.
