Most companies treat culture like a poster on the wall. They point to a slide that says collaborative, fun, enthusiastic and expect people to behave that way. That doesn't work. Culture forms whether you shape it or not. If you want a good one, you have to build it on purpose. A strong culture makes people bring their best. A weak one drives the A players out because they have better options. The B's and C's stay. Some people quiet quit and just collect a paycheck without caring anymore. You don't need a long list of values. The rule is simple. Don't be a jerk. Don't tolerate jerks. Someone can be highly competent with strong credentials. If they build power structures or create political problems, they still damage the company. The people around them stop wanting to work with them. When that happens, the A players leave and performance drops. If you hire someone and they turn out to be a jerk, remove them fast. Keeping them around disenfranchises everyone else. A great culture becomes a real competitive edge. People care more, productivity rises, and you keep attracting strong talent. That difference shows up in results.
