Companies burn thousands a month on agency retainers to sound like a press release nobody reads. The personal branding industry has it wrong. Its whole model is built on a marketing team posting generic content on the company's accounts, or a ghostwriter dressing up a founder's LinkedIn presence for a retainer. That's backwards. The people worth hearing from already work at the company. The executives and employees solving hard problems every day carry insight no agency can manufacture. That knowledge is the asset. Most organizations sit on it and post "I'm thrilled to announce" instead. Scroll LinkedIn right now. It's wall-to-wall sanitized announcements. "I want to welcome Sarah to the team." Polished and on-brand and completely hollow. What's missing is the human experience of working through something difficult with other people. The real stories. The messy middle that actually makes someone stop scrolling. There's a reason it stays hollow. Real insight takes the person who has it, and that person is usually the busiest one in the building. So the marketing team fills the gap with safe filler, and the executive's genuine perspective never makes it out of their head. That's the gap worth closing. Make it easy for the people with the knowledge to share it without the two-hour writing tax or the monthly retainer. The organizations that figure this out will sound like the humans who run them. Everyone still pumping out announcement posts will keep wondering why nobody follows the company page. What's the last thing a real operator taught you on LinkedIn?
