The faster the tool, the more dangerous the confidence it creates. The engineers who get burned by AI are the confident ones. If the tool generates faster than you can review, the review is what you're being paid for. Here's the one thing I keep watching junior engineers get wrong with AI-generated code. They ship it before vetting it. The code compiles, it looks right, the prompt did its job in nine seconds, and that speed becomes the trap. So here's what I do before any AI-generated code touches production. Every time. I read it like I didn't write it. Is the logic sound, or does it just look sound? Have the edge cases actually been tested? Has it run in a real environment, or only in my head? Then the two nobody wants to slow down for. Performance and security. What does this do under load? Am I trusting the model to have thought about an attacker I haven't? Only once all of that is UATed do I feel comfortable putting my name on it. The AI made me faster at generating the code and slower at trusting it. That second thing is where the actual work lives now.
